Corps of Discovery [updated April 12, 2008] Corps of Discovery field trips are informal tours organized upon invitation of a host and guide. SCAR publishes a meeting date, time, and place of the Revolutionary War related sites to be visited. We invite all interested to carpool, join the hike and enjoy informal boots on-the-ground, interpretive presentations of research. SCAR keeps you posted on the details here. June 7, 2008 – Richmond, Va. - Corps of Discovery - This event is sold out - SCAR and the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond bus tour following the route of Lt. Col. Banastre Tarleton’s daring 1781 Charlottesville cavalry raid led and narrated by historian Dr. John Maass of the U. S. Army Center for Military History. From Richmond, we will travel to the site of Cuckoo Tavern, where Patriot Jack Jouett first learned of Tarleton's plans. Next we will tour both the inside and grounds of the 1730s Boswell's Tavern in Louisa. Then we will follow Tarleton's route into Albemarle County viewing the magnificent 1764 Castle Hill, the sites where Tarleton captured several Virginia Patriot notables on his way to Charlottesville. Next we will visit and walk the grounds of The Farm, in Charlottesville, viewing the 1830s home and an 18th century outbuilding where Tarleton’s Legion spent the night. Finally, we will tour Boyd Tavern on the old Three Chopt Road. Built in 1751, the original building has been nicely restored and sits on a 9-acre parcel. Tarleton passed here several times and Lafayette later took a blocking position close by to prevent the British from attacking Charlottesville a second time. This event is sold out, but to get on the wait list,
